Eurobirdwatch 2021

The Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest and the Kalloni EIC in an effort to raise awareness about the Lesvos Geopark invite you to take part in the birdwatching activities for the celebration of Eurobirdwatch- European Birdwatching Day 2021.

The Global Birdwatching Day was first initiated in 1993 by the Birdlife International organization with the participation of more than 100 countries. The main goal of the celebrations is to raise awareness about migrating birds, and the areas where they breed, station during migration, and those where they overwinter.

In Europe, the celebrations take place under the «Eurobirdwatch» title, and, at the same time, a Rapid Information System (R.I.A.) is organized and conducted, to report the bird species and populations observed. Responsible for the coordination of the R.I.A. for Greece, the Hellenic Ornithological Society (H.O.S.), is the Birdlife International partner in the country. Last year, with several countries not being able to participate at all, due to the pandemic restrictions, the R.I.A. was undertaken by 30 organizations/centers in Europe and 24.000 volunteers counted more than 6 million birds!
