Monitoring of bird populations

The scientific staff of the Kalloni EIC systematically records and monitors the bird populations in the Kalloni Gulf wetlands. The Kalloni Salt Pans, being the most extensive and important wetland of the island is monitored every fortnight.

Each year, we take part in global birdwatching events such as  the Eurasian Birdwatch Day (October), Global Migratory birds Day (May and September), Midwinter Waterfowl Monitoring (January). Data records are sent to international scientific databases and used as tools for decision making and protected the birds of the world.

All records of birds from the Kalloni Gulf and the whole island are regularly presented on the Bird News page.
