Last Sunday, January 2022, we were out to the Kalloni Salt Pans on our first birdwatching trip for 2022! The day was perfect with sunshine and we felt the cold only when the sun went behind a cloud for a while...

We birdwatched with two groups and were able to enjoy several winter species and of course our winter ducks: Flamingos, Dalmatian Pelicans, Curlews, Redshanks, and Common and Ruddy Shelducks, Wigeons, Teals and Mallards! The fair conditions made possible to also get some raptors: Common and Long-legged Buzzards, Marsh Harrier and a fantastic male Hen Harrier!

We were very satisfied to have full participation (27 people) and are already planning our next activities for the January 29-30 weekend, to be announced in detail next week! The coming weekend we are participating in the International Waterfowl Midwinter Count for 2022.

This activity was implemented under the program "Actions for the aggrandisement of the wetlands of Western Lesvos" of the North Aegean Prefecture and the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest.
