Eurobirdwatch 2022 is an annual event taking part at the first weekend of October in more than 100 countries in the world (35 of them in Europe), organised by the global organisation for the protection of birds, BirdLife International. The main aim of the celebrations is to inform and raise awareness about the need to protect birds, their breeding grounds, their migrating routes and their overwintering sites.
This year is the 30th anniversary of the Eurobirdwatch in Greece and the 40 years of operation for the Greek Ornithological Society.
The programme for the celebrations in Lesvos is as follows:
- Saturday, 1/10, from 17:30 to19:00, bird ringing demonstration at the Faneromeni wetland, Sigri.
Meet us at the Faneromi conjunction of the main port road in Sigri at 17:30.
- Sunday, 2/10, from 10:00 to 13:00, guided birdwatching at the Kalloni Salt Pans\
Meet us at the birdhide of the NE corner of the Kalloni Pans at 10:00 or 11:00 or 12:00.
The events are organised by the Lesvos Petrified Forest Museum, Greek Ornothologicla Society, Hellenic Bird Ringing Center and supported by the Municipality of Western Lesvos and the Northern Aegean Prefecture (North Aegean Operational Programme 2014-2020, for the project "Wetlands of Western Lesvos").
